Hi tweets,
up here in the north it was a beautiful day yesterday, and cold. I went
for a walk in the afternoon along the water, and found 4 Hooded
Merganser, several Pacific Loons and a Sharp-shinned Hawk as highlights.
I have yet to find out whether this is "the" Sharp-shinned reported on
the CBC. There was also a big number (more than 300) of crows commuting
from work somewhere in the evening, and gathering in a small forest
patch close to a fish processing plant. I have to find out whether this
is happening regularly.

Question: the Pacific Loons looked as if they were already paired up,
diving and swimming as pairs (3 of them). Is this the right time of the
year?

3 days ago, we also had a Common Snipe in a ditch in almost downtown.
