POSITIONS AVAILABLE AS VOLUNTEER FIELD BIOLOGISTS: Located on the

north shore of Lake Erie, Long Point is one of the last wild areas left
in southern Ontario. It is internationally recognized as a World
Biosphere Reserve and supports a fantastic array of habitats, plants,
and animals. Founded in 1960, Long Point Bird Observatory (LPBO) is
North America's oldest bird observatory. The core program is centred
around monitoring populations of migrating birds through daily
censusing and banding routines at three field stations. Other on-site
research programs focus on various aspects of breeding bird biology.
Volunteer Field Biologists staying for 1 month or more have food and
accommodation fees waived. Short-term volunteers are required to
pay a fee. All participants experience an enjoyable but intensive and
diverse training in field ornithology in a truly beautiful part of Canada.

For more information about LPBO and its programs visit the Bird
Studies Canada web page <<http://www.bsc-eoc.org>, follow
the links to Long Point Bird Observatory Programs and Volunteer
Opportunities at Long Point.

Up to 40 long & short-term Volunteer Field Biologists are required for the 2000 field seasons (April to mid November). For the spring
season, applications must be received by February 28. Summer and
fall applications must be received by April 15 and June 1, respectively.
