Bird alert for January 16, 2000

This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for January 16,
2000.

On January 1, Dennis Rockwell reported the continued presence of the pair
of EURASION WIDGEONS at the Columbia Park Duck Pond. The drake as been
there since November and the rufous morph female since mid December. Also
on January 1, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise found a MEW GULL with RING-BILLED
GULLS across from the Columbia Park Golf Course and agin noted the WHITE
FRONTED GOOSE plus another Drake EURASION WIDGEON at the park fishing pond.


On January 2, 2000, they observed a THAYER?S GULL on the Yakima Delta.
Mary Nowalkowski (sp?) belatedly reported that a pair of RED CROSSBILLS had
been in her Richland yard on December 31, 1999.

On January 8, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise saw a GOSHAWK flying over the WSU
Campus in North Richland. I found a white phased SNOW GOOSE at the
Columbia Park fishing pond on January 10, an adult WESTERN GULL on the
Yakima Delta that same day.

On January 11, I watched a RED BREASTED MERGANSER just down stream from
Nelson Island. Lastly, Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth Fisher found three MEW
GULLS among a gull flock near the Columbia Park Boat Ramp and a PEREGRINE
FALCON near the Kennewick Grain Elevator.
