This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Jan 14 (2000). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening.

A PINE WARBLER, Idaho's first state record, is still visiting a feeder in
Moscow, Latah Co, ID. The bird has been present at the feeder of Bettie and
Ray Hoff, 907 East 7th Street, since Tue, Dec 7. The bird frequents a
feeder on the south side of the house. Look for it around the southeast
corner of 7th Street and Hayes. The Hoff's have also had a WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW visiting their feeders. The Hoff's are happy to have birders visit
but if you are coming from a distance you might want to check ahead. Email
them at

A first-year GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID on Jan
8 by Lisa Hardy and members of CdA Audubon. The bird was in the parking lot
of the Rosauer's along Appleway. Also in the CdA area, a dark morph
GYRFALCON was found along the southern edge of the Rathdrum Prairie, near
Post Falls today, Jan 14 by Stephen Lindsay. The bird was along Horse Haven
Avenue, midway between Syringa and Greensferry, adjacent to Falls Christian
Academy. Also in the locale was a MERLIN. ID DeLorme 60, AB-1.

I also have an unconfirmed report of a GYRFALCON from the Adams Co WA
fairgrounds just south of Othello on Jan 7. WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

Two EURASIAN WIGEONS are in the Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID / Clarkston,
Asotin Co WA area. Both birds were spotted on the CBC on Sun Jan 2. Both
birds were with American Wigeons at Kiwanis Park, which is the first
parking area south of the bridge over US 12 along Snake River Avenue. If
you can't find them there, check Swallows Park, just south of Clarkston
along WA 129, and check the ball fields just north of the US 12 bridge over
the Clearwater River in north Lewiston. ID DeLorme 54, A-1; WA DeLorme 43
AB-8. Also in the valley, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE is persisting at
Mann Lake, 3 miles east of the Lewiston Orchards at the end of Powers
Avenue, along with a late GREATER YELLOWLEGS, according to Brian Jamison.
Cindy McCormack reports a GREATER-WHITE FRONTED GOOSE, presumably the same
bird, was also at Chief Timothy State Park just west of Clarkston on Jan 8.

Four TRUMPETER SWANS were on Lake Lenore, Grant Co WA on Jan 7 according to
Randy Hill. Lake Lenore is along WA 17 between Soap Lake and Coulee City.
WA DeLorme 68, A-4 on the crease and 84 and 85, D-4 and 5.

Good birding.
