Hi Tweeters, meant to share this the other day but
didn't get time so here it is now...

On this past beautiful sunny Tuesday noon I was
walking back to work up the hill from the Kirkland
waterfront, past the baseball park, when noticed out
of corner of my eye a large bird circling over the
field. Better look revealed a mature (male-from size
and coloring) Bald Eagle. I stopped to enjoy the view
as he was circling rather low. A moment later a
second eagle hove into view and segued into the tight
circular flight pattern. I faintly could hear a
"keee-ee-ee keee-ee-ee" cry as they were circling,
which continued as they made 4-5 tight rounds over the
field, still quite low. Couldn't tell if one or both
were calling.

Suddenly, they both peeled out of the circle and
headed west towards Lake Washington, side-by-side,
flapping very strongly and determinedly which resulted
in such a good turn of speed that they moved out of
sight more quickly than I would have liked, especially
since they were so low.

Now I know I'm not supposed to anthropomorphize unless
I'm writing for Walt Disney but it looked very much
like a typical Bellevue/Kirkland "where you want to
'do' lunch?" exchange in which some decision was made
and immediately acted upon in a most business-like
manner. During my observation, I glanced around once
or twice and not one other of all those folks walking
busily on their ways appeared to have any notice of
this wonderful sight. So I felt very privileged to
have had a chance to see this in the middle of my busy
work day and be able to continue on up the hill to my
office with a smile and nice memory.

Also, there were the usual 5-6 Varied Thrush along our
road this morning. From the way everyone talks about
them on Tweeters I guess I never realized what a rare
treat they were---we've always had them around our
yard/neighborhood every winter. I really do enjoy
seeing them.
