Tweeters,
I was hiking the Snake River breaks near Asotin recently and flushed a cock
pheasant which landed in some short grass on a distant ridge. A few minutes
later I saw a golden eagle flying along the ridge. As it passed near where
the pheasant had landed it suddenly dropped to the ground. There was a brief
flurry of activity and the pheasant exploded from under the eagle and flew
away.
By now most of you probably think it was actually a Buteo, but I can
assure you it was indeed a golden eagle. I've seen them go after rabbits, but
never birds, has anyone ever observed this. I felt very fortunate to see this
sight.
