Tweeters,

I spent a couple hours this afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Port of Tacoma
looking for both the Iceland Gull and the Slaty-back as well, with no luck
on either. Just before I left a man walked up to me from apparently the
guard booth at the entrance to the mill. He said that yesterday (thur.) the
bird had gotten into the water and floated north towards the Sound. He said
he saw it yesterday afternoon in the water in the bay on the north side of
the mill compound. I asked if there were any public access to that area and
he told me there wasn't. He hadn't seen the bird today though and his
theory was that if it was still in the water today it could have
drifted/blown in the water eastward. But who knows, it may have gotten out
of the water somewhere too. At any rate, it seems unlikely that it would be
able to return to the parking lot area where it was earlier seen. No luck
on the Slaty-back for me either. I've probably looked for that gull there
now some odd 20 times in the last 3 or 4 winters without luck. Hopefully
I'll find it one of these times. There were at least 2 Western Gulls in the
area today.
