Thanks for the response, Martin.

Actually, I always thought that female Bald Eagles
were slightly larger than the males and could have a
bit more of a brownish cast to their feathers, with
the males being slightly darker (more towards black
coloration than brown). Don't ask me where I got that
notion from...for some reason I thought they had told
us that at the Woodland Park Zoo raptor talk when we
were looking at the large female (Montana) that was
there, or some other situation like that, but heck,
maybe I'm just getting old and silly and confusing
them with ostriches (they are both large birds after
all).

Anyway, I don't mind someone pointing things out
(nicely, as you did). Made me go look in my books
(when was the last time I had to look up the Bald
Eagle writeup to make an ID?) and see what it said
and sure enough, it doesn't mention that. Someone
gave me some bum gauge, and my imagination made me
think I'd actually observed it here and there over the
years! The whole reason I bother to wade through the
Tweeters download nearly every day is because I
realize there are many more hard-core birders out
there than I am, that I can learn from.
