Hi Tweets,
I had an interesting encounter with a Sharp-shinned Hawk yesterday. The
bird hit my kitchen window with a loud thump, and, when I looked outside to
see what had happened, I found the sharpie, laying on its back, completely
still and unconscious. She (a very large version = female, I assume) was
breathing, so I brought her inside and put her in a box. About 15 minutes
later, she had opened her eyes and turned over. After another 10 minutes she
flapped her wings. I took the box outside and, when I opened the lid, she
took off! Pretty cool. One interesting note: the bird was an immature, but
with very worn feathers. The tail feathers were very worn at the edges, and
the tail looked round. I'm sure this was a sharpie because of the
'match-stick thin' legs (among other things) but, in flight, the rounded
tail screamed 'Cooper's'.
