Dear Tweets,

A good friend of mine was driving across the Swinomish Channel on Route
20 when he saw what he believed was a completely white eagle. He is not
a birder, but has a good working base for identifying raptors, as well
as, differentiating types of birds (ie gulls verses hawks, etc), so I am
apt to trust his observational skills. We discussed the different age
classes of eagles, and he is aware that some immature Bald Eagles can
have a lot of white on the belly, back and head. We also talked about
light phase Red-tailed Hawks, but he commented that the bird had a huge
yellow bill. As a sideline, his sister works for the Swinomish tribe and
he asked her to ask around, and several of the fishermen have seen a
white eagle over the last couple of years frequenting the area of
Padilla Bay and the Swinomish Channel.

So, for those birders in the Padilla Bay area, keep a lookout- there may
be an albino Bald Eagle about!

Good birding, Alan
