"If anyone knows of any hotshots who'd like to earn $100/day working for us
offshore on the oil platforms this spring (early March through May;
part-time OK) and who could also get along well with offshore crews and do
a good job recording data, let me know ASAP."

Van Remsen, of Louisiana State University, sent this request to a number of
people. If anyone is interested, please reply to me; I've volunteered to
serve as a clearinghouse for the local birding community. The key word is
"hotshot," as a primary criterion would be a really excellent knowledge of
eastern birds, the ones that would be migrating over the Gulf of Mexico in
spring. How is your warbler identification in flight at 100 yards? The
experience would be fantastic, sometimes boring but often intensely
interesting for a birder. They are also recording migratory insects
(dragonflies, butterflies, and others). They see pelagic birds, marine
mammals, and oceanic fish from the platforms.
