January 27, 2000, Thursday, 9:33 a.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette at
(206) 365-2083. This report is for the 26th of January and Snohomish
County. At the Snohomish sewage treatment ponds was a single GREAT EGRET.
The EGRET was seen at the east end of the large western most pond. Also
present were 3 COMMON SNIPE and 1 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER. Good birding.

January 28, 2000, Friday, 5:30 p.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette at (206)
365-2083. This report is for January 28 and Snohomish County. Today at
about 2:00 p.m. I had a PALM WARBLER along the Lowell Riverfront Trail near
Everett. The bird was with 4 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. From the parking lot
for the trail, head north and stay on the asphalt pathway, which follows the
Snohomish River. Go for about a half of mile at which point the trail
leaves the river and makes a 90 degree turn to the left and goes through a
young deciduous forest for several hundred feet. The PALM WARBLER was seen
after going through this forest at which point the habitat opens up again.
To get to the trail parking lot from I-5, take Exit 192, then east on the
41st Street overpass, then south on the arterial, which is South 3rd Avenue,
which becomes South 2nd Avenue, which becomes South 3rd Avenue again. Then
left on the Lowell River Road for about a tenth of a mile to the parking
lot. Hope you see the bird and good birding.

January 29, 2000, Saturday, 11:57 a.m. Hello, this is Mike Wyle (425)
503-5766, birding Carnation Farms Road with Michael Mann. On Saturday we
had 3 GREATER WHITE FRONTED GEESE in a flock of CANADA GEESE across from the
Nestle's plant. That's it. Thank you and good birding.

January 29, 2000, Saturday, 6:08 p.m. Hello, this is Kraig Kemper (206)
789-9255 reporting for Saturday, January 29, birding Clark County at the
Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. At the River S unit, Kathy Kemper and
I observed 55 SANDHILL CRANES, 1 SANDERLING, 8 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and 4
COMMON SNIPE, 10 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, 1 REDHEAD duck, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON, 3
CANVASBACK, 1 LINCOLN SPARROW and 11 TREE SWALLOW. Heading west of Fourth
Plain Boulevard in Vancouver, just west of Roughner's Farm, we located 4
GREAT EGRET. Thank you.

January 29, 2000, Saturday, 9:58 p.m. Hi, this is Sam Terry (206) 329-9038.
Today in the Stillaguamish delta near Stanwood along Miller Road, there was
one SANDHILL CRANE. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

January 29, 2000, Saturday, 10:04 p.m. Hello, this Phil Mattocks in
Ellensburg (509) 962-2191. Today I checked out Wanapum Lake at Vantage in
eastern Kittitas County. About a tenth of a mile above Getty's Cove, out
there was a large raft of SCAUP, there was a female OLDSQUAW or LONG-TAILED
DUCK. No long tail and very drab plumage. So it's probably a first year
bird. Below Wanapum dam there were 2 COMMON LOONS and a few RING-BILLED
GULLS. That's it. Thanks.

January 30, 2000, Sunday, 11:58 a.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. I
apologize for the belated nature of this report. Yesterday, Saturday, Rick
Romea, Gene Revelas, Jim Flynn, Dennis Duffey and I went out to chase for
the ARCTIC LOON that is at the Priest Rapids wildlife area. We were able to
find it about 10 in the morning and watched it for the better part on an
hour. To get to this spot, take Highway 243 to 26th Street or Avenue S.W.,
north of Desert Aire, and take that road to the river. Actually, there is a
parking lot there at Priest Rapids wildlife area. Walk out to the river
edge and scan across the river. The bird unfortunately wasn't on the Yakima
side of the river, therefore, fairly far away. And that's about it.
There's also a couple COMMON LOONS in that vicinity and a HARLAN'S HAWK. In
the town of Desert Aire we had a couple SLATE-COLORED JUNCOS and one
SLATE-COLORED OREGON intergrade in with the JUNCO flocks at various cedars.
Today, we refound Dave Beaudette's PALM WARBLER at Lowell Riverfront Park in
Everett. Go north from the parking lot and as Dave describes, follow the
asphalt path. It breaks sharply to the left going, truly leaving the river
edge, and then it comes out into a field which is almost all Scotch broom
and is encircled by a fence. It's a fairly large field, maybe a quarter to
half a mile across. The PALM WARBLER is hanging out with some YELLOW RUMPS
moving back and forth across this field, sometimes feeding from the alders
at the edge, sometimes feeding out in the middle in the Scotch broom. And
the birds are very active moving to and fro across this rather large area.
Also, along the little swampy areas on the east edge of the field, there was
a GREEN HERON. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

January 30, 2000, Sunday, 8:31 p.m. Hello, this is Scott Atkinson. This
morning there was an OSPREY at the base of Rawlins Road, which heads west
out to the north fork access of Skagit flats on Fir Island. Also, there was
a HARLAN'S HAWK along the Bayview trail. This is just north of Route 20
headings towards Samish flats. That's all.

January 30, 2000, Sunday, 8:55 p.m. Hello, this is Dan Stevens from
Wenatchee. I'd just like to report that COMMON REDPOLLS have been seen the
last couple three weeks regularly and they are easy to find in Chelan.
They're about 150 feet or so to the northwest of the Safeway store right
there in Chelan just off main street. It's easy to find. They're along
Allen Street in some birch trees, just west of Cedar Street. If you have
any questions, I'll be glad to help. My number in Wenatchee is 663-5323.
Thank you.
