By the absence of messages I assume everyone is off enjoying the holidays.
I have opted to stay home (goose Lucifer doesn't like fireworks) so thought
I would do my report on time, for a change, plus get some yard work done.

Following are the turkey vultures reported from Washington, British
Columbia, and Oregon during June 2000:

01 - 1 over the East Channel Bridge, Bellevue (being harassed by a crow!)
02 - 2 at Satus Lateral A sitting by a pond; 1 adult at north Centralia; 1
circling to the NW at Littlerock; 2 south of Rockport (possibly two more)
03 - 2 east of Cle Elum; 3 in a tree near Cle Elum; 3 soaring over the
Steely Dan concert at The Gorge amphitheatre; "several" at Exit 80, off I-90
04 - 2 over Coal Creek Park; 4 soaring off the east side of San Juan
Island; 2 west of Cle Elum; 1 heavily mobbed by blackbirds north of
Prosser; 1 gliding east near Shelton; 1 over the south end of Lopez Island;
1 with missing tail feathers east of Arlington; 7 west of Mount Vernon
(plus one the previous week hunting the nearby fields); 1 soaring west of
Rock Lake, Whitman County; 8 over I-90 at Easton; 1 east of Easton
05 - 1 at the north end of Lake Washington; 12 birds in small groups (2-4
birds each) between Arlington and Fortson Mill; 1 over Bothell Way
09 - 5 at Omak; 11 along I- 5 through Oregon
10 - 1 at Gold Creek; 1 at West Nelson Siding; 1 at Reecer Canyon Road; 2
north of Ellensburg; 1 at Swauk Prairie
11 - 16 north of Castlegar, B.C.; 3 at Eugene, OR; 2 at Padilla Bay
Interpretive Center
12 - 1 along the beach at Gibsons, B.C.; 18 along I-5 from Oregon to
Washington; 7 along SR416; 1 soaring over Cannon Beach, OR
13 - 1 over Bothell Way
14 - 3 gliding down the tracks near the Fraser River, B.C.; 2 on the ground
in Sequim
15 - 2 sailing by and then harassed by a pair of merlins at Gibsons, B.C.
17 - 3 east of Morton; 1 above Rimrock Lake; 1 near Morton; 1 near Ohop; 5
at Ridgefield NWR
18 - 1 at Nicolai Mountain, OR; 1 on I-90 west of Spokane; 3 near
Philomath, OR
19 - 3 adults circling south of Stanwood; 15 from highway between Lincoln
City and Tillamook, Oregon; 1 west of Hope, B.C.; 2 at Yale, B.C.
20 - 1 soaring just north of Littlerock; 3 in the middle of a broccoli
field northwest of Conway eating (not broccoli!!) ; 1 soaring 200' up south
of Littlerock; 6 south of Rochester; 1 north of Yale, B.C.
21 - 3 over Best Road, Skagit County; 1 circling over the water at the
Battelle Lab on Sequim Bay
22 - 1 flying over a pasture west of Littlerock; 1 at Katz, B.C.; 1 in the
Icicle Creek area
24 - 5 circling pet dog "Goggy" near San Juan Island (Goggy moved; vultures
left!)
25 - 10 soaring over Rattlesnake Ledge near North Bend (evoking peregrine
falcon ire!)
27 - kettle of 7 over SR12/Sulkum Heights Road; 1 over Mayfield Lake County
Park; 1 at Mossyrock Dam; 1 with a redtail at Randle; 1 west of White Pass
29 - one to two most of the month over Lantzville, B.C.; 6-7 near Nanaimo,
B.C.
30 - 1 "subadult" on the ground northwest of Littlerock
