The New York Times today reports that a new species of grouse, the
Gunnison Sage Grouse, will be accepted by the American Ornithological
Union in its journal, The Auk, later this month. The bird lives in the
sagebrush ecosystem of western Colorado and eastern Utah. The population
is estimated at 5,000 and declining.
