Searches for Yellow Rails in the breeding season in Washington should
include Calispell Lake (north of Spokane, west of Hwy. 211. WA DeLorme p.
105, B-6). Unfortunately, access to this large wetland and lake seems
extremely limited; the roads encircling it appear to be all private
property. Perhaps there is public access of which I am unaware. Bunchgrass
Meadow ( WA DeLorme p. 119, C-7) might be another site.

These two areas, in my opinion, most resemble the Yellow Rail breeding
habitat (floristically and structurally) in mid-continent Borth America
where the species is still fairly common: Manitoba, Minnesota, North Dakota,
for example.
