Subject: Juvenile Caspian Terns on the Necannicum

I saw my first juvenile CASPIAN TERNS for the year on the
Necannicum Estuary today between 1100h and 1125h.

A flock of over 100 terns was sitting on the sand flat. An
adult BALD EAGLE chased about half the flock off. There were
4 juveniles among the 64 that remained.

Several individuals in the flock were banded as follows:
1 right banded aluminum
1 left banded stainless steel
1 right red-green-orange; left metal-black-yellow
1 right red-metal-orange; left white-green-orange
The last bird was closely associated with a juvenile; white
with very frosty crown and dark gray vermiculation on the back
and coverts.

There was also one adult with a crown already molted to
to non-breeding.
