Hi Tweets -
Yesterday I led a group from Seattle Audubon on a field trip east of the
mountains. We stopped at the Teanaway River on Hwy 10, Hidden Valley,
Liberty, and up FR 9712 to the Swauk Pass/Diamond Head area. We had near
ideal weather, little wind until late in the day. Good bird activity at
all locations with something special at each.
We got nice looks at Gray Catbird, Veery, Spotted Sandpiper and American
Dipper at the Teanaway River stop. We had stunning views of Western and
Mountain Bluebirds on Hidden Valley Road. Just before Liberty we had
nice views of Western Wood-Pewee, and MacGillivray's Warbler. In
Liberty, at the house with the hummingbird feeders there was a platform
feeder which had Evening Grosbeaks and Cassin's Finches coming in for
great views. Starting up FR 9712 we had a Lazuli Bunting singing.
Farther up, at a wetland area we had a pair of Lincoln's Sparrows,
Black-throated Blue, Townsend's and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Warbling
Vireo. On Bettas Road we had Vesper Sparrow, Western Kingbird and Horned
Lark. Total of 70 species for the day.
