Saturday, July 1, 4:19 PM. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today, Dennis Duffey
& I went out to Whidbey Island. It was actually fairly slow, but there were a
few shorebirds around. On the shores of Useless Bay we had about 10 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, and a few peeps, including 1 SEMI-PALMATED SAMDPIPER. At Crockett
Lake there were still 8 AMERICAN AVOCETS, a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, a couple
of LEAST SANDPIPERS, a number of WESTERN SANDPIPERS totaling about 50, and 2
LESSER YELLOWLEGS. At Swantown Pond there was 1 LONG BILLED DOWITCHER and a
number of WESTERN SANDPIPERS. From Ft. Casey State Park a very large number
of RHINO AUKLETS totaling 4500 were seen over 15 minutes or so and there were
also quite a number of HEERMANN'S GULLS there at that time as well. We saw
HEERMANN'S GULLS at several locations on the west side of Whidbey, too. It's
starting to rain so we're going to head for the east side, Good luck and good
birding.

Saturday, July 1, 8:51 PM. This is Rachel Lawson at (206) 282-5593. This is
an update on the OVENBIRD at the Packwood location. The bird was still there
this morning, July 1, but was not very vocal or very easy to see. That's all.
Good luck and good birding.

Saturday, July 1, 9:52 PM. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. There was one
sighting I left off. We had 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS northwest of Silvana.
Go north from Silvana, then go west on Norman Road to 28th, also known as
Stubbs Road. Turn north on that. There is a flooded farm field on the left
and there were about 150 PEEPS there including 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS.
That's it, good luck and good birding.

Monday, July 3, 10:16 AM. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Yesterday Dennis
Duffey, Casey Beechum and I birded Grant County mostly. Highlights included 3
adult FRANKLIN'S GULLS and a couple of BONAPARTE'S GULLS in a flooded field
near the town of Wilson Creek itself. This is along the highway there, just
by milepost 71. Also on the shores of that flooded field was a male
TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD, presumably from the nearby breeding colony. At the
colony itself we missed TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS, but that was likely due to
going there in the early afternoon when things are pretty quiet. At Lake
Lenore there were 2 adult FRANKLIN'S GULLS, 77 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES, quite a
number of other birds. At Alkali Lake, just north of Lake Lenore, we had a
pair of RED-NECKED GREBES with young. And in Othello we had a GREATER SCAUP
and that is about it. Good luck and good birding.

Tuesday, July 4, 1:17 PM. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today on Homemakers
Road on Ebey Island, near Everett, there is a pond south of US 2. There was a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 110 or so LEAST SANDPIPERS, and a couple of WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, along with a brood of BLUE-WINGED TEAL today. Also at the county
property at the very north tip of Ebey Island, there were 2 pairs of EASTERN
KINGBIRDS and overhead a male PURPLE MARTIN. Good luck and good birding

Tuesday, July 4, 6:41 PM. This is Marv Breece, (206) 634-1725. This morning,
the 4th of July, from 6:15 to 6:45 AM I heard and saw a singing male
BLACK-THROATED SPARROW on Huntzinger Road .7 miles south of the state park.
This is south of Vantage. Also this morning, on the 4th of July, from 8:30 to
9:15 AM, I heard and saw another male BLACK-THROATED SPARROW. This was just
north of Vantage on Recreation Drive. It was .3 to .5 miles in on Recreation
Drive. It was a very active bird, flying back and forth across the road, a
lot easier to find than the previous one. That's it, good luck and good
birding.

Thursday, July 6, 4:12 PM. Hello, this is Steve Pink, phone number (425)
649-0601, with a belated report for a trip to Eastern Washington last
weekend. I went with Jim Fremwith (?). On Saturday, July the first, we found
a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW at a slightly different location. At Vantage, on the
Huntzinger Road, you go just past the Wanapum Dam, down the steep hill, there
is a track to the right. Then you go down there for about .2 mile and the
bird was singing in that area. On Sunday, the second of July, there was a
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE at Mission Ridge in the Blue Mountains, one of its
traditional sites. On the 4th of July we saw a single ACORN WOODPECKER in the
tree near Chamberlain Lake near Lyle in Klickitat County. That was the
highlights. Good luck and good birding.

Thursday, July 6, 4:29 PM. Diane Ravenovich, (425) 836-0831. For the past 5
days, in the morning and the evening, we've had a RINGED TURTLEDOVE feeding
in
our backyard sanctuary. He's either very far from home or he is a
domesticated bird who has been turned loose. This was suggested by Audubon
Society and I tend to agree with it. I'm still trying to identify whether or
not the bird is banded.
