Hi tweets,

I counted 22 fledgling Great Blue Herons and two adults at the Ballard Locks/Commodore Park today. There were also several visible in the heronry from the locks, but I didn't walk up to check any closer. 14 fledglings on the north wall and railing on the west end of the large lock below the crabapple trees, 6 on the Commodore Park beach, and 2 in the trees above the restrooms. The adults were on the wall separating the large and small locks on the west end. The number of fledlings has increased since Sunday while the number of adults has decreased...

You can get driving directions at http://www.nws.usace.army.mil/opdiv/lwsc/intro.html or write me. The locks are properly known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and Commodore Park runs from the locks to the railroad bridge on the Magnolia side.
