Neawanna Transect
Seaside, Clatsop Co OREGON

13 July 2000 1230h to 1410hr
temp 67F; wind SW 10-15; 60%sun

Method: Follows the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme described in
Pollard and Yates (1993, Monitoring Butterflies for Ecology and
Conservation. Chapman Hall, London.). A 1.4km transect was
divided into 10 sections. All butterflies, odonata and selected
day-moth species seen within 5m of the transect line are counted
and recorded. The aggregate count follows:

Blue-eyed Darner 3

Eight-spotted Skimmer 9
Variegated Meadowhawk 1
Cardinal Meadowhawk 2
Sympetrum sp. 1
unknown "black" dragonfly 1

Western Forktail 11

Notes: The stiff breeze from the south almost certainly kept
butterfly species down. The unknown "black" dragonfly was seen
at pond two. Steve Warner saw it better than I did. Neither
of us saw any markings, but Steve thought there might be two
small white spots on the head.
