Hey tweets, Thanks to all who replied to my loosestrife-at-the-Fill post.
Several of you have expressed a desire to help, so we'll be holding an
informal loosestrife-pulling party around the main pond on Saturday, July
22 beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until we all get too tired. Stuart is
coming with his gas-powered whacker, and my husband John is going to rent
his Scissorhands hedge trimmer again, and we'll have a loosestrife slapdown
(if that's the right teenage term). If enough of us show up, maybe we can
have a relay race too.

Please come and pull a few plants. If your health forbids you to bend and
yank, then come and cheer us on - or bring cool drinks. We think we can
clear the main pond completely, which will really help the fall migrants.

FYI, last night there was a long-billed dowitcher there, as well as
numerous leasts and westerns. The yellowlegs seem to have gone south, but
there's bound to be new arrivals showing up every day. We stayed until
after moonrise, and the scenery was breath-taking: pale yellow globe of
moon rising in a magenta sky, with swallows and swifts swooping past, the
smell of fall mist in the air. A party of frat brothers and sorority
sisters were anchored in the bay, partying. Were we ever that young and
