Kay and I and my son went looking for three-toed and black-backed
woodpeckers at the burn described by Pat and Ruth Sullivan in their late
June post. The hike was beautiful, directions excellent, but the
woodpeckers not found. The walk to the burn was easy and fun, the hike up
the draw to the burn was quite difficult. I am not certain how far up
Patrick went, but we scrambled up the 60 degree slope for an hour or so,
then gave up looking for the place it "levels off." A nice day and did see
an immature male and a young Williamson's sapsucker at the White Pass
campground.
