I had a surprise at the Lake Hills Greenbelt of Bellevue. I saw this small
finch like bird with a large bright red-orange and orange legs. It was
feeding along the sidewalk on the east side of 156th Ave. SE and south of SE
16th St. I got a good description into my tape recorder before a runner
scared it off. I checked in "A Photographic Guide to Birds of the World" and
found it to be a Spotted-sided Zebra Finch. A pretty little bird from
Australia that is a common cage-bird. This bird undoubtedly is an escaped
pet, but a nice diversion from the usual.
