Back in June, Jane Stewart asked for information about Cave Creek Ranch.
When I contacted her off-list, she said that she had received many negative
comments, specifically that the place was really run-down and that the
managers were rude. Well, fellow Tweeter Liz Campbell and I just got back
from a 3-night stay, and I want to let everybody know that there have been
some big changes at "Caved-in Ranch". The place changed hands about 2
years ago, and the new owner has really fixed things up. The accomodations
are very comfortable and well-maintained, and the managers, Larry and
Terrie Gates, could not have been nicer or more helpful. Access to the
feeder-watching area is now limited to paying guests, so it is very quiet
and peaceful. And, of course, the birding was great! So, I hope none of
you will avoid Cave Creek Ranch on the basis of out-of-date word-of-mouth.
If anyone has further questions about accomodations or birding down there
(we also stayed at Santa Rita Lodge, and found a very interesting new place
'way out in the desert towards Rodeo), please contact me directly.
