Hi everyone,
I've been on Tweeters for years and years, well maybe 10. Most of you
probably don't remember me because it's been a while since I posted to
Tweeters, even though I used to be pretty active. First, I want to say
thanks to everyone on Tweeters, for being such an important part of my life
when I was just getting started in birding. It was fun, and some of the
best things I have read and learned have been found here.

I have finally decided to unsubscribe, not because I am any less interested
in birds and birding, but because I am growing tired of the finger-pointing
and name-calling that every interesting discussion on Tweeters eventually
descends into. There are many eloquent and reasoned voices on Tweeters, and
also quite a number who just can't manage to respect other people and their
viewpoints. Just as difficult to take are those who can't acknowledge that
they may not know everything about a situation as complicated as, oh, say
terns and endangered salmon, for example. I work in that field, and I don't
think anyone "knows" the answer. Almost everyone on all sides is working in
good faith to do what they think is best for the salmon, or the birds, or
the river, or all of the above. Yet they don't agree, which is OK and a
realistic reflection of how much we know about the best way to deal with our
impacts on the ecosystem.

There are an awful lot of unfounded "facts" and over-simplifications that
get thrown around in these e-mails, and personal accusations too. So much
for caring, respect, and scientific integrity. I think I'll go birding :-)
Later, all.
