Hi, Tweeters and Mary Ann

Since I live on the hill northeast of North Park, I went down this morning
to look for the possible night herons. I started out east (behind) the
19900 buildings walking on the dike (directions at the end). I headed
south along the quite dense riparian habitat and evidently went too far
because all of a sudden there was a rather weak single note and a bird
flying after me (down the creek)! It gave another call, made a loop to go
back up the creek and landed about 100 yards north of me. Got a great look
both with binoculars and without. It turned out to be a green heron! When
I went back, I could hear it 2-3 different times (within about ten minutes)
from the dense foliage around the creek. The foliage is quite thick in the
area and conceals a lot. I'll check again soon; who knows what else might
be in there.

If you visit this area, follow North Creek Parkway past the 19900 building
(north) and curve around over the cement bridge. Take the first drive to
the right, then immediately right again into a parking lot for joggers and
walkers. There are paths on the dike which winds along the riparian area.
The green heron (and maybe the night herons) was directly to the west of
the little parking lot.

Cheers, Diann
