Hello Tweeters,

Tammy and I went to the south side of Grays Harbor today and enjoyed the
sunshine. At Bottle Beach we saw 10 Caspian terns in breeding plumage. They
were catching fish in the eelgrass meadow and bringing them back to shore.
We saw one tern offer a fish to another on the beach. We didn't expect to
see many shorebirds since the migration is past, and we didn't see a single
one, even though the tide was perfect (between 2 hours and 1 hour before
high tide).
Is anyone aware of any studies of terns in Grays Harbor related to the
Corps of Engineers projects?

Other highlights of the day included:

- 3 elk in the clear-cut near Stafford Creek visible from the highway
- 23 Brown pelicans at the entrance to the Westport marina
- a song sparrow with a blue over yellow band on the right leg at the Johns
River boat launch (does anyone know which bird bander might be interested in
this sighting?)
- gyros and Greek salad at Anthony's restaurant in Westport!
