We live on the north end of Whidbey Island. A COOPER'S HAWK flew across our
pasture this morning. This is not unusual. We have Coop's visiting our
bird feeders almost every day in the winter. However by the time this hawk
reached our house there were 25-30 birds mobbing him/her. The hawk had
attracted every bird in the vicinity. The largest I could identify were
BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS, the smallest VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. There were several
other species as well. All were darting at the hawk and tormenting it. It
had no choice but to fly up over the treetops and on into the distance. It
must be terrible to be so unloved!
