Columbia Estuary Report - 6/4/2000

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was at the Neawanna Wetlands on Saturday
morning. WILLOW FLYCATCHERS arrived last week; at least 5
were at Astoria Airport this morning.

BLUE-WINGED TEAL are being seen throughout the area and
appear to be setting up for nesting.

A single WESTERN SANDPIPER was seen at the Neawanna Wetland
last week. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW has been on the Necannicum
Estuary for the last several days with 15 WHIMBREL.

A flock of 75 Sitka-type (type 3) RED CROSSBILLS were seen
yesterday at the Neawanna. Type 3 crossbills were singing in
the tree across from my house as well. I'm also fairly
confident that a smaller flock of type 2 crossbills was
also around.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
