We have Barn swallows that will come into our yard. Have not been able to ID
the swallows that fly above the ravine we're in so don't know if they're
Violet-Green or not. Been able to catch glimpses of green but haven't seen
enough to know if they're Violet-Green or Tree swallows.

Every summer toward the end of June through the middle of July I get woken
up around 2:00 AM after a hot day by a large number of swallows. Don't know
if the hot day causes more insects to be out or if it just causes me to have
the windows open, could be both.

Sunday 6/4/00 was awake dealing with a customer all night. It was about 3:00
AM I noticed the swallows, not as many as I usually hear but then this is
earlier in the year and I was already awake.

My guess has been their calling is so they won't run into each other and
maybe it helps them find the insects. Either way I rather enjoy listening to
them even when they wake me up.

Mine routinely are up at about 3:30 a.m. Since I get up to go to work at 4
a.m., it's a nice way to be awakened, far more preferable than the darned
alarm clock.
