Subject: Daddy not deadbeat

A couple weeks ago I reported to you that we have a Pacific-slope
Flycatcher nesting on the brass carriage lamp at our front door.

Three other people reported to me that they, also, have had PSFLs nesting
at their front door light fixtures, but only two were brass. So I've
concluded that it's not the brass, but the sheltered area and a shelf that
attracts these birds which, by the way, tolerate quite a bit of human
activity coming and going through the door.

Birder's Handbook says that the female builds the nest and incubates the
eggs, and that is exactly what happened here. I never saw or heard the
mate in the area during incubation.

However, WE HAVE BABIES! And now the daddy has returned to the scene, and
the two birds are busy feeding the babies. (I can't see how many) So
daddy was just waiting for his duty, and was not a deadbeat as I feared.

Let's just hope the cold, rainy weather will not have too much affect on
bug availability.
