Sunday, June 18, 1:45 PM. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. At the Everett sewage ponds today near the
northeast corner, there was a pair of EASTERN KINGBIRDS, and on the northernmost pond there was a
LESSER SCAUP with six young. Also on the ponds were about 10 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 20 OTHER LESSER
SCAUP, a WIDGEON and a number of GREEN-WINGED TEAL, BLUE WINGED TEAL, CINNAMON TEAL, and a couple
of WOOD DUCK birds. That's it, good luck and good birding.

Saturday, June 17, 9:58 pm. This is Steve Mlodinow. Today Dennis Duffy and I birded from the
Darrington area over to the Rockport area of Skagit County and then down Whidbey Island.
Highlights included the two singing AMERICAN REDSTARTS at Fortson Mill Pond, described by Dave
Beaudette in the next message. Also in the general Fortson Mill Pond area we had around 20 RED
EYED VIREOS. Around 11 AM we had the YELLOW BREASTED CHAT with directions given by Scott Atkinson
a couple of messages down the line. We also had 3 male LAZULI BUNTINGS in that area. At Crockett
Lake we had 8 AMERICAN AVOCET including 2 birds which appeared to be sitting on nests. This was in
the same location that we had a bird building a nest about a month ago. Also, two PARASITIC
JAEGERS flew low over Crockett Lake: quite a surprise. And then on the shores of Useless Bay, a
surprise for mid-summer, we had 31 WHIMBREL. That's about it, good luck and good birding.

Saturday, June 17, 7:23 PM. Dave Beaudette, 206-365-2083. This report is for June the 17th. Today
in Skagit County at about 9 AM I saw the YELLOW BREASTED CHAT reported yesterday by Scott
Atkinson. The bird was easy to find in trees around the parking area and in shrubs in the field
off to the northeast, this side of along the Martin Road, about 4/10ths of a mile from State route
530. In Snohomish County, I had COMMON NIGHTHAWKS at three sites along State Route 530, west of
Darrington, for a total of 7. Two of these were seen from the Fortson Mill Road at the power line
crossing just off the highway. Two singing AMERICAN REDSTARTS were along the main trail at the
Fortson Mill Ponds east of the parking areas. Good birding.

Saturday, June 17, 3:12 PM. Hi, this is Shiva Parameswaran, 206-623-0753. I was bird watching in
Discovery Park today and it was a wonderful day out there, lot of interesting birds, but the
highlight of the day was a BARRED OWL. I was lucky enough to find it because I heard the hoot a
little and also the cacophony of the passerines that were going berserk over seeing this owl. It
came in pretty close, I had great looks at it for around 10-15 minutes as it was flushed from tree
to tree, and it was a great thing, that BARRED OWL. This place is very close to the north parking
lot, and there is a small trail that goes up further, behind those restrooms, further away to the
hillside, along the main road where Bus 33 runs. It is somewhere in that area since that's where
I saw this bird around 12:13 PM today. Good luck and good birding.

Friday, June 16, 3:30 PM. Scott Atkinson. I have a few birds to report for Skagit County this
morning, June 16. The highlight was A YELLOW BREASTED CHAT. This was a singing bird found just
south of Rockport along Martin Road. Heading south on route 530 from Rockport you go across the
Skagit River, and then immediately thereafter on your left is Martin Road. Go down about .45
mile, and you come to a sharp 90 degree turn. At this point on your left is a gravel parking lot
for apparent public access. The bird was seen and heard in song in the heavy thickets along the
south side of this lot. Then at the county line site, near the Whatcom County line along Route
20, northwest of Marblemount, 2 male AMERICAN REDSTARTS, and then a THIRD AMERICAN REDSTART was
seen at the base of the Bacon Creek Road. This road is also off Route 20, just a little ways
prior to the county line ponds. At the Josh Wilson Pond, near the east end of Josh Wilson Road,
just west of Burlington, and near the southern terminus of Route 11, 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPE,
possibly the same two that had been seen earlier in late May, a NORTHERN PINTAIL, and an EARED
GREBE. That's all.

Fri 1:18PM This report is from Tom Eckhart, who found a singing OVENBIRD this morning, June 16,
near Packwood in Lewis County. The bird appears to be on territory. Directions are difficult,
and the road leading to the spot is unmarked and not shown on maps. Tom will be in the area for
several more days and is willing to guide birders who want to try for the bird. Call his wife,
Edith, at 206-524-3993 to make arrangements to meet Tom in Packwood. He phones her every evening.
