Saturday and today both, I observed the rising of the tide at Kennedy
Creek Estuary. Saturday was hot (33oC) and still; today was warm
(21oC) and gusty (wind 5 - 10 mph ). Kennedy Creek is still in the
summer doldrums for shorebirds. The notable observation was a Ring-
billed Gull kiting on the wind like a tern, repeatedly plunging and
diving below the surface, catching fish, and apparently eating them
on the wing. Is this kind of behavior common with gulls? I've never
seen it before.
