There was an article in the PI Getaways section on Thursday June 15, titled:
"London's huge wildfowl sanctuary 'a bird airport'." I tried to find a link
to the article for you from the PI site, but couldn't bring one up.

However, from the article, here's a link that apparently connects you to info
about the 105 acre Wetlands Center: www.wwt.org.uk

This is the "ninth wildfowl sanctuary" set up the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust
which was established in 1946, according to the article.
