Hi, All:

On the way home from work yesterday saw a Western Kingbird hawking from the
fencing along Wood Rd about 50 feet north of Hwy. 2. Also, about 2 miles
further north, saw a brown-headed cowbird with a white head. It could have
been a Brewer's; it wasn't close enough to see if there was a white eye ring
blending into the white head. I figured, genetically speaking, since
cowbirds have heads of a different color (and this was certainly another
color!) a cowbird was the most likely choice. We had a great thread last
year about chromatic variations and mutations. Many of the responses were so
interesting I saved them onto my hard drive. Well, as you might have
guessed, I didn't back them up on a floppy or even print them out so when my
computer was stolen all the neat info went with it! Anyway, between those
two birds and the adult male and juvenille Northern Harriers along the road
it was a good trip home.
