Butterfly Census
Neawanna Transect
Seaside, Clatsop Co OREGON

22 June 2000 1220h to 1340hr
temp 65F; wind W 0-5; 20%sun

Method: Follows the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme described in
Pollard and Yates (1993, Monitoring Butterflies for Ecology and
Conservation. Chapman Hall, London.). A 1.4km transect was
divided into 10 sections. All butterflies, odonata and selected
day-moth species seen within 5m of the transect line are counted
and recorded. The aggregate count follows:

W. Tiger Swallowtail 2
Veined White 3
Lorquin's Admiral 2

Blue-eyed Darner 3
Eight-spotted Skimmer 1
Cardinal Meadowhawk 2
Northern Bluet 81
Western Forktail 3

Notes: EIGHT-SPOTTED SKIMMER was identified in hand (female).
Darners and meadowhawks were observed through binoculars at
close range.
