Hi
Thanks to the magic of internet messages my wife and I went looking for
the Garganey this evening. We got there around 7PM along with a lot of other
birders.
We read in the book at the gate, that it had flown to the west ponds so we
went over there. No Luck. Coming back through the fence I thought I would
try and pish out the mocking bird. It appeared on the second pish, at bird
box#12, sat on the fence for a minute and then flew back into the shrubs and
disappeared. Feeling not entirely skunked we headed back to the car when we
met John Toochin who said the Garganey was back in the S.E. pond. He took us
over and there it was at point blank view. We also met fellow poster to this
group, Neil Hughes. A great evening all around. Some notes on the Garganey
from Birds Of B.C...four records, May, 1977 at Iona..June 1979, Iona..Port
alberni October,1980..Penticton, May, 1984.
See you in the field,
Len Jellicoe
