This is Charles Swift with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington
/Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday June 23 (2000). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening.

The Black-throated Sparrow continued to be seen at Steptoe Butte as of
Sunday, June 18 according to several groups. Also present was a possible
Gray Flycatcher near the base of the butte near the picnic area according
to Tom and Diane Weber. Other species present here include Rock Wren,
Black-headed Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting, and Vesper and Grasshopper Sparrows.

On June 17, the Canyon Birders visited Ferry County, WA and found 2
Three-toed Woodpeckers Swan Lake Road, as well as lots of Swainson's
Thrush, Townsend's Warbler, and several Osprey. The mill pond on the Curlew
Lake road had two Red-necked Grebes. See WA DeLorme p 116 D-2 and B-3.

They also saw a Sora and 3 Bobolinks at the Colville Sewage Lagoons. See WA
Delorme p. 118 D-1. And along the Centennial Trail near Liberty Lake we had
two Clay-colored Sparrows.

In Spokane, the nesting Peregrine Falcons have 2 young according David
Mann. Also in the area are White-throated Swifts. They have moved their
nest site from the one they used for the last three years but are under the
same Sunset Boulevard
bridge. The bridge crosses Hangman Creek, also known a Latah Creek, just
west of the downtown area. See WA Delorme p. 89 C-5.

Finally an injured Band-tailed Pigeon was reportedly found in Moscow and
taken into the WSU Veterinary Clinic this week according to Dr. Erik
Stauber. This is the time of year to be on the lookout for this wandering
species.
