Butterfly Census
Coxcomb Hill Transect
Astoria, Clatsop Co OREGON

26 June 2000 1210h to 1325hr
temp 80F; wind WNW 0-5; sky clear

Method: Follows the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme described in
Pollard and Yates (1993, Monitoring Butterflies for Ecology and
Conservation. Chapman Hall, London.). A 2.2km transect was
divided into 10 sections. All butterflies, odonata and selected
day-moth species seen within 5m of the transect line are counted
and recorded. The aggregate count follows:

Clodius Parnassian 2
W. Tiger Swallowtail 4
Veined White 3
Lorquin's Admiral 1

C?nurgina [Drasteria] c?rulea 2

Aeshna sp. 1
Blue-eyed Darner 2
Eight-spotted Skimmer 2
Varigated Meadowhawk 2
Sympetrum sp. 1

Notes: A CALIFORNIA TORTOISESHELL was seen off transect.

Correction: Last week's report included Paddle-tailed Darners
It has been pointed out to me that they should not be flying this
early. A Single Blue-eyed Darner was all I could find on a
follow-up trip the next day. They appear as Aeshna sp. in the
cummulative list.
