Hello Tweeters,

I do apologize for the late report.

Yesterday (27 June) I birded from Packwood to Moses Lake with the following
highlights:

OVENBIRD
Singing at midday - about 12:30 to 12:45. I located the bird about 25 feet
up a few yards into the woods from the flagging on the west side of the
road.

HERMIT WARBLER
Several birds singing along Forest Service Road 21 just west of Packwood

MERLIN
I was suprised to find this bird perched and calling along Forest Road 21.

RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER
At White Pass Campground - possibly the same bird Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
had.

WHITE-THROATED SWIFT
About a dozen birds at rock face 3/4 of a mile west of Oak Creek Canyon Road
near junction of Hwy 12 and 410.

BANK SWALLOW
At large colony about 5 miles east of junction of Frenchman Hills Road and
Dodson Road on the south side of Frenchman Hills. Thanks to Marv Breece for
mentioning this colony in his trip report.

Notable misses were Black-throated Sparrow at the Huntzinger Road site even
though there was little wind and the heat of day was dying down. In my
limited time at White Pass CG, I didn't find Three-toed or Black-backed
Woodpecker. Perhaps I should have looked for Ruth and Patrick. Also,
Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet and Wilson's Phalarope which I expected
to see in the Desert WRA area. Are there birds in Potholes WRA?

Thanks and Good Birding!
