Butterfly Census
Neawanna Transect
Seaside, Clatsop Co OREGON

22 June 2000 1200h to 1315hr
temp 62F; wind W 5-10; 100%sun

Method: Follows the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme described in
Pollard and Yates (1993, Monitoring Butterflies for Ecology and
Conservation. Chapman Hall, London.). A 1.4km transect was
divided into 10 sections. All butterflies, odonata and selected
day-moth species seen within 5m of the transect line are counted
and recorded. The aggregate count follows:

W. Tiger Swallowtail 1
Veined White 4
West Coast Lady 1

Blue-eyed Darner 2
Aeshna sp. 1
Eight-spotted Skimmer 11
Varigated Meadowhawk 2
Northern Bluet 12
Enallagma sp. 2
Pacific Forktail 3
Western Forktail 13

Notes: The PACIFIC FORKTAIL id is tentative. Cooler temperatures
and windy conditions may have had an effect on the damselfly
numbers.
