In response to Jo Waldron, who wrote: "Does anyone know of a group that
might put out commercial advertisements FOR the environment?" I would like
to add to the comments from Teresa Michelson and Michelle Blanchard:

There are actually a number of commercials - but the best ones are Public
Service Announcement types that are not paid advertisements. These are used
by stations to fulfill federal requirements for public service, and for
filler when they don't have all their ad space sold. I think that current
commercial where the guy has to start his smoking TV like a lawn mower is
probably a PSA.

Then there are the pseudo environmental ads. These can actually be quite
good as stand-alone items. When Georgia-Pacific ran an ad boasting about
preserving habitat for the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, most people would not
have immediately known that GP was FORCED to do so by the Endangered Species
Act. International Paper has run similar ads. They're really good ads, but
one needs to understand that these companies are doing it to fix the bad PR
that their past behavior has caused.
