there is a Birding Festival In McAllen Texas April 6-8, with field trips and
lectures.

I have a Falcon guide : "Birding in Texas" by Wauer and Elwonger that I
would recommend. You will definitely want to buy and carry something like
it for directions. It says the Black- capped Vireo
and golden- Cheek warblers come in Mid april, so you might be a little early
for them, and you will not be alone looking for them. I would contact the
local Audubon Society- the chapters in San Antonio and Austin. THe phone
