Sightings for Saturday, March 04th

An adult ICELAND GULL was on Okanagan Lake in the Mount Rockby (spp?) bird
sanctuary area in Kelowna, from 10 am to 3 pm. Usually gulls are on the
lake in the morning, then depart in the afternoon.

Locally an adult GLAUCOUS GULL was in the gull flock on Burn's Drive. Also
seen there was an odd looking leucistic GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL.

The 4 READHEADS were again seen near the southwest end of the Robert's Bank
Coal Port Jetty. There were 2 males and 2 females. The many ducks in that
area included some 19 male EURASIAN WIGEONS. A WESTERN SANDPIPER was with
DUNLIN at the base of the jetty on the south side.

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and 2 CEDAR WAXWINGS were at the Reifel Refuge.
The WILLET was at the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty on the south side.

Two RING-NECKED DUCKS and 2 WOOD DUCKS were at zero avenue and 240th Street
in Langely.


Friday, March 03rd

Two ROCK SANDPIPERS were at Ferguson Point, Stanley Park with 30 BLACK
TURNSTONES, 30 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and 50 SANDERLING.

On the gull fields along Burn's Drive in south Delta were 10 HERRING GULLS
and 1 WESTERN GULL with the gull flocks. Another WESTERN GULL was on the
Iona ponds.

Two BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were on the Tsawwassen ferry jetty compensation
lagoon and 2 others were along the jetty.

Tuesday, February 29th

At Williams Park in Langely today 2 AMERICAN DIPPERS were reported.

A trip to Pitt Meadows produced 8 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS at the inner section
of Dewdney Trunk Road and Hale Road.


Monday, February 28th

An adult breeding plumaged GLAUCOUS GULL was found among the large flock of
gulls in a field south of Hwy 10 and 72nd Street.

In Tsawwassen, on upland drive, an adult PEREGRINE FALCON was seen.

The 4 REDHEADS were relocated at the south end of the Robert's Bank Coal
Port Jetty amongst a large flock of ducks.


Sunday, February 27th

Rare bird alert continues for an adult breeding plumaged ICELAND GULL in the
fields north of Burn's Drive, also seen here was an adult plumaged GLAUCOUS
GULL and several HERRING GULLS, 1 adult WESTERN GULL and 1 CALIFORNIA GULL.
Up to nine species of gulls were reported in this one field throughout the
day.

At Point Robert's, at the rock jetty near the marina was 1 SURFBIRD which
was found with 29 BLACK TURNSTONES.

At the Reifel Refuge the SWAMP SPARROW was relocated near the observation
tower. Also reported from the refuge were 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 5,000 SNOW
GEESE, 2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS and 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS.

At the south end of the Robert's Bank Coal Port Jetty were 4 REDHEADS (2
males and 2 females), and an EARED GREBE. The WILLET was again seen at its
usual spot at the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty. Also seen along the
jetty were 22 BLACK TURNSTONES and 4 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

In Chilliwack at Cheam wetlands, 2 TREE SWALLOWS were watched feeding up
high over the marsh.

The 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were again seen today along the Vancouver
docks off Rogers Street.
