I hate to bring up a thread that is basically over, but while the
thread may be over, the issue remains.

So I would like to propose we use some of the resources we have here
on tweeters to take a small piece of action. I think we have an
opportunity to once again raise the issue with the public.

Gene, would you be willing to oil up those old broken-down
bugologist fingers to write up a short op-ed piece or article
building on your direct experience with species now extinct.
I hate to ask you, as someone who has done so much already,
but I think the first-hand experience that you have would
make a more powerful statement. I mean, it's one thing to
talk about extinction in the abstract, it's another thing
to say that you have seen and studied and gotten to know an
animal first hand, and that animal no longer exists. Plus,
if these tweeters posts are any indication, you're a darn
fine writer.

Everyone else I am sure that there are folks out there who
have had some success getting an op-ed into the local papers
especially the Seattle Times or Post-Intelligencer, but any
local papers would be good. I am friends with Geov Parrish,
a columnist from the Seattle Weekly, and I will try to contact
him.

At the vary least, there is the WOS news and a couple of different
Audabon groups around. I suspect I could coax Geov Parrish into
devoting portions of one of his columns, and I can write an
article for a local lefty rag I've worked with called Eat the
State!

It's a small thing, but I think it's worth it.
