Sightings for Friday, March 10th

Fifty five COMMON REDPOLLS were at alders along the Sea Island dike near the
south end of the Sea Iona causeway. Small numbers of TREE SWALLOWS are
showing up here and there. One hundred thousand diving ducks, mostly
scoters are massing off the tip of the Iona south jetty.


Thursday, March 09th

The first VIOLET GREEN SWALLOWS of the spring season were seen at Colony
Farms. Also at Colony Farms and heard along the Coquitlam River was
possibly a very early CASSIN'S VIREO. If someone can confirm this please
let the bird alert know.

Twenty COMMON REDPOLLS were along the Sea Island dike about 700 m along the
Sea Iona causeway.

A first year GLAUCOUS GULL was in a large mixed flock of gulls near River
Road and 60th Avenue, Delta.

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER (Audubon's Race) was along the Iona corridor, which
is the vegetation bordering the west fence between the inner and outer
sewage ponds.

A mixed flock of sparrows there of several species seemed restless as if
anxious to start moving out.


Wednesday, March 08th

Out of town in Vernon, an adult ICELAND GULL was on Okanagan Lake at the
mouth of Vernon Creek.

Locally, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW is in the Blackie Spit area.


Sightings for Tuesday, March 07th

A RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER was at Stanley Park by the miniature golf course.

Forty COMMON REDPOLLS were along the dike trail on Sea Island about 100
meteres from the Sea, Iona causeway and another 100 metres along the trail
was a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER.

A BARRED OWL was at Redwood Park south Surrey being harassed by crows.


Monday, March 06th

An early OSPREY was at Pitt Meadows about 200 metres north of Sturgeon
Slough.

An immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS and many SNOW
GEESE were at Reifel Refuge.

A GREAT-HORNED OWL was at Maplewood Flats.


Sunday, March 05th

In a late report 4 TREE SWALLOWS, the first of the spring were at Reifel
Refuge.

The PRAIRIE FALCON was again at 34B Street in Delta

Twenty Three GREATER YELLOWLEGS were at Elgin Heritage Park in south Surrey.

The immature KING EIDER wintering at Robert's Creek on the Sunshine Coast
can still be found daily between the foot of Henderson Road and Park Avenue.

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS and 4 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS
were at Iona Island.

Three BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were at Lilly Point, Point Robert's.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was at Colony Farms and 19 BALD EAGLES were counted
between Richmond and White Rock.


Sightings for Saturday, March 04th

An adult ICELAND GULL was on Okanagan Lake in the Maude Roxby Bird
Sanctuary area in Kelowna, from 10 am to 3 pm. Usually gulls are on the
lake in the morning, then depart in the afternoon.

Locally an adult GLAUCOUS GULL was in the gull flock on Burn's Drive. Also
seen there was an odd looking leucistic GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL.

The 4 READHEADS were again seen near the southwest end of the Robert's Bank
Coal Port Jetty. There were 2 males and 2 females. The many ducks in that
area included some 19 male EURASIAN WIGEONS. A WESTERN SANDPIPER was with
DUNLIN at the base of the jetty on the south side.

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and 2 CEDAR WAXWINGS were at the Reifel Refuge.
The WILLET was at the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty on the south side.

Two RING-NECKED DUCKS and 2 WOOD DUCKS were at zero avenue and 240th Street
in Langely.
