Tweets,
Nancy Ladenberger and I took advantage of the nice weather to do some birding
around Sequim and onto Ediz Hook. Most if not all were birds that had been
reported by others earlier but I thought I'd post updates on our success.
At the John Wayne Marina we relocated the YELLOW-BILLED LOON.
At 3 Crabs feeding among the many DUNLIN, SANDERLING and BB PLOVER was a
single WESTERN SANDPIPER.
On Ediz Hook we had mixed results on the shorebirds there. We had 1 RUDDY
TURNSTONE, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER and 1 WHIMBREL but missed the ROCK SANDPIPER
though not because of lack of effort. We looked through the 80+ shorebirds
out here in 3 different flocks, over 2/3 being BLACK TURNSTONES.
We also found 1 first year HEERMANN'S GULL. I think several have been hanging
around the spit over the winter. All told, 79 species without many land
birds, not too bad of a day.

To identify a species should not be enough to quench one's thirst,
a proper thirst must seek to understand every facet of the bird's
existence.
