...................Sun. afternoon: At Shillipoo Lake just north of Lake
Vancouver: Many ducks, including Ring-necks and Hooded Mergansers, 2
Great Egrets, some Gr. Blue Herons, 9 Tundra Swans, and 1 White Pelican
(probably the same one I observed at River-S unit of Ridgefield NWR 3
weeks ago).Alo a bunch of Killdeer pecking around the muddy area. One
light-phased Red-tailed Hawk flew overhead, zillions of Canada Geese(3
different sub-species noted) with about 2 dozen Sandhill Cranes
intermingled with the geese.
.......................By Frenchman's Bar park---a good number of
Sandhill Cranes along with more Canada's. In the heron rookery almost
every nest had a Gr. Blue Heron standing over it.
.......................Some ducks --mainly Shovelors, and Mallards with
some Gadwalls and Green-winged Teals on the lakes toward the end of
Lower River Rd. Dark-eyed Juncos, Red-winged Blackbirds, a Lincoln's
Sparrow along with a ever-present female No. Harrier Hawk graced my
presence.The sounds of Sandhill Cranes from across the river on Sauvies
Island added to the symphony along with the frogs and geese.-----and
some very silent rabbits, squirrels, a garter snake, and a very hungry,
furry water rodent.
