March 9, 10:29 AM. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette at 206-365-2083. Went
birding March the 8th in Snohomish County with Carol Shawls and Roger
Orness and had a few good birds. At the Snohomish Sewage Ponds was the
GREAT EGRET and at the Two Rivers Wildlife Area near Monroe, on Crescent
Lake there, a pair of WOOD DUCKS and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS in a pond and
cropland along the Swan Slough Road which is just west of the Homemaker's
Road. And along the Homemaker's Road at 38th St. S.E. was a large
scattering of SWALLOWS. This included at least 100 TREE SWALLOWS and at
least 100 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. Good birding!

March 11, 6:23 PM. Hi, Scott Downes, 361-7073. Today, Nancy Ladenberger
and I went birding from Sequim to Ediz Hook in Pt. Angeles. Highlights
were a WESTERN SANDPIPER among the many shorebirds at Three Crabs, the
YELLOW-BILLED LOON was reseen at John Wayne Marina. In Pt. Angeles we had
a first winter HEERMANN'S GULL off Ediz Hook. Could not find the ROCK
SANDPIPER, but yet was able to relocate the WHIMBREL and the RUDDY
TURNSTONE which has been there most of the winter. Good luck and good birding!

March 11, 8:54 PM. This is Steve Hosmer, 425-889-2169. Today, March 11,
while on a Seattle Audubon trip led by Rick Sanders and John Friars, we saw
a male TUFTED DUCK at the Hoquiam Sewage Ponds in Grays Harbor County. The
entire group had excellent looks at the duck near the shore at the
southwest corner of the sewage ponds at around 2:30 PM. Good luck and good

March 12, 3:52 PM. Hi, this is Stephen Mlodinow. Today, Dennis Duffey and
I birded Spencer Island and some other places around Everett including
Tulalip Bay. The highlight of the day was a eastern type or red type of
FOX SPARROW. This bird is probably the suboria (?) race, actually. It was
on Spencer Island at the northwest corner of the island hanging around the
vicinity of a couple of GOLDEN CROWNS, some JUNCOS and some SONG
SPARROWS. Other highlights were a GLAUCOUS-WINGED GLAUCOUS hybrid first
year bird at the aeration ponds, Everett Sewage Ponds. Tulalip Bay had a
large number of birds for those who are interested in Snohomish
County. There was flock of about 20 BLACK TURNSTONES, a rare bird in the
county. There were also a 130 or so COMMON MERGANSERS, about 700
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS and good numbers of other common water
birds. And, at the Everett waterfront there were two BLACK MALLARD, BLACK
DUCK MALLARD hybrids which looked more like BLACK DUCKS than MALLARDS but
some bits of hybridization can be observed. There was also a BLACK MALLARD
hybrid at the north end of the Everett Sewage Ponds. That's about
