Two Guatemalan conservationists were apparently murdered in the line
of duty trying to protect Guatemalan natural areas in late February.
This casts a pall over the conversations on Tweeters that Eugene Kridler
has initiated about whether we should be politically active.
How lucky we are here in the USA that we when we debate this in our
own lives we don't have to factor in the liklihood of our own
assassination.

Sadly,
We must note that Judy Barri (sp?) and her colleague were car-bombed
in northern California a few years back while organizing a campaign to
protect the west coast Ancient Forests. Fortunately, they were not
killed, only injured. Humboldt/Del Norte County and CHP investigations
first attempted to blame the bombing on them (claiming that it was
their own car bomb that exploded!!!), then further investigations were
dropped. Explain again to me the difference between Guatemala and
the U.S.?
